Goodnight Grandpa Hillman

JOHN H. HILLMAN

December 17, 1919 - May 09, 2014

John H. Hillman of Cadillac passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was 94.

John was born in Cadillac on December 17, 1919 to John P. and Anna M. Hillman. He graduated from Cadillac High School in 1937. He served his country from 1941-1945, being honorably discharged as a tech sergeant from the U.S. Army Air Corps. While stationed in the states he married Wilda Miller on August 21, 1942 in Enid, Oklahoma and they shared 71 years together in marriage.

John's life was defined by his devotion to his wife, family, God and church. He was a lifelong active member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Sunday was his favorite day of the week where he could be found at church greeting parishioners and visitors, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School.
John was past President of the Cadillac Optimist Club, and a member of the Christian Business Men's Club. He held a membership at the Cadillac Country Club, loved being outdoors with golf being a game he enjoyed very much. After retirement from a career in sales, and personnel management, John and Wilda enjoyed many years together traveling and wintering in both Florida and Arizona.

John was a very loving, kind, and gentle soul with a contagious positive outlook on life, gifted with story telling, magic tricks, and mealtime prayers that were always cherished.

John is survived by his wife Wilda, sons Tim (Sheri) of Cadillac, Tom (Molly) of Roscommon, daughters Deb Barney of Petoskey, Liz (Leonard) Terranova of Byron Center, and Martha (Bill) Norman of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Andy, Laurie, Sarah, Mary Ann, Katie, Susie, Erik, Patrick, Courtney, and Shelby; great grandchildren: Zacary, David, Blake, Grace, Stefan, Lucy, Ella, Olivia, Grant, Luke, Mitchell, Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Philip.
We were blessed to have such an amazing Grandpa-Great Grandpa!
